That's got to be the most unique class I've seen in a long time. Serious credit to them for coming up with something so off the wall.

But still, anytime I see this game I'm reminded "Oh yeah, it's not Runic Games making this anymore..." and it feels kind'a wrong. They were part of Perfect World when Torchlight 2 was made.

I believe it's still the "Torchlight Frontiers Gold" Runic Games, since the husk of that made Hob from what I remember.

Echtra Games is a San Francisco-based game studio comprised of seasoned developers who helped shaped the world of action role-playing games. The team was founded in early 2016 by Max Schaefer, co-creator of genre-defining game franchises like Torchlight and Diablo. A longstanding dream to revive the world of Torchlight inspired him to reunite some of the industry's best developers and create the studio's very first project, Torchlight Frontiers.

So wait Runic Games went under, with their main IPs being Torchlight. Another studio then forms, made up for primarily people from Runic Games, and their main IP is Torchlight?

Yes runic wanted to go in other directions. The passionate Torchlight devs took the IP and started their own company to focus on Torchlight.

Haha that’s a super accurate short review. It’s good, with so much possibility - but ends up just ok.

Honestly, im amazed at some of their spells and class ideas, they have a lot of small unique things you dont see often or at all in other games, but this class takes the cake!

The same devs from runic took the game IP and started their own company so they could make more..it's literally the same devs and also more arpg vets from Diablo, etc.

I couldn't put it into words but Torchlight Frontiers Alpha feedback I get the exact same feeling. I loved the other torchlight games but something about this just isn't pulling me in.

Isn't the development team working on this basically a reformed Runic Games?

I know Max Schaefer is the founder for Echtra Games which is the studio working on Torchlight Frontiers but yeah.

Loved Torchlight 1 and 2. I played the alpha for this and did not enjoy it. At the time it was like an MMO where enemies are constantly respawning and someone else on the server can roll by and take the kill.

Is it different now? I knew it was an MMO but this isn’t what I was picturing.

There are instanced public areas with ~8 random people, where you grind and do basic quests. Then there are private areas that offshoot from public areas. These are randomly generated dungeons for solo or party.

Perfect World is involved so I'm not surprised it's mediocre. Their general strategy seems to be to take a winning formula, shit all over it, then slap as much nonsense they can on top to make money.

Uuuh I heard about frontier but not much, loved TL 2 and farmed it to death, was pretry hyped about a new TL, my hearth sank seeing the PW logo.

Are you aware Runic was bought by PW shortly after TL1 was released? PW was as involved in TL2 as they are in Frontiers.

Didn't know that actually, guess I never paid too much attention to the opening credits of TL2.

I actually don't mind that.
