My thoughts on merc behavior options
Two controls are on their sheet, one to toggle the berserk function, and another variety of options for the basic AI functions.
Berserk mode.
If the checkbox is you check it (default) the Mercs will not be able to flee from when their health drops lower than 10%, as they are now. to the death!
If left unchecked, and they are able to flee from combat then they will cease to flee and rejoin as soon as their health increases to 20 percent.
Multiple choice AI feature:
Option 1: Attack nearest enemy. (default)
Option 2: Attack weakest enemy. Attack from the weakest until the most powerful.
Option 3: Attack strongest enemy. Attack starting from the strongest and ending with the weakest.
Option 4: Take precautions.
The enemy stays within 5 yards of and will attack the nearest enemy but switches to attacking first melee attack that strikes you.
If a melee merc is fighting a an attacker who is not within 5 yards of you, they will be positioned between you and the nearest attacker with a range.
If you make a move, and the mercenary is not within 5 yards, they'll stop moving towards you and will not attack up to 5 yards.
