Three classes available in the first beta
During the first beta weekend of Diablo 4, only three out of the five character classes that will be available at launch were accessible, but all three of them were quite impressive. The Rogue, which was my personal favorite from the original Diablo, made a spectacular comeback as a glass cannon who excels at penetrating enemy defenses and causing critical damage. In addition, she has the ability to become invisible to divert attention away from herself, only to reappear and inflict massive damage. The Sorcerer also possesses a comparable set of skills, mostly comprising of long-range fire, electric, and ice-based attacks, but they were more effective at controlling large groups of adversaries, such as with their chain lightning attack that can zap six enemies at once. Inflicting elemental damage, freezing enemies in place, or burning them is a fantastic experience, as they even have different death effects.
However, the Barbarian class seemed slightly underpowered during the beta, and I hope that Blizzard takes note that melee combat, in general, requires some improvement. The brief amount of time it takes to approach an enemy is frequently not worth it, especially when a Rogue can swiftly take them down from a distance. Nonetheless, being capable of absorbing a lot of damage while running around as a shirtless, massive berserker is still quite enjoyable, particularly since the character creator necessitates that all Berserkers have the same body type as Dave Bautista.
Regarding Diablo 4, I must say that I find the character creator quite limited, at least based on the version available in the beta. Despite having a few options for faces, hair styles, and tattoos to choose from, there aren't many opportunities for customization. It's surprising that there are no sliders to adjust specific facial features or different body types to select, especially considering that cutscenes often zoom in on the player character. Additionally, I was disappointed that there's no option to choose a voice for my character, as it is determined solely by the character's sex and class. Overall, I felt that I had very few options to make my character unique, but I'm hoping that this will change in the full version.
The biggest departure from Diablo's traditional action RPG model in Diablo 4 is its incorporation of more live-service and MMO elements. This shift brings both pros and cons. On the one hand, the game's online requirement to play (which is already present in Diablo 3 on some platforms) and occasional server issues that lead to getting kicked to the menu can be frustrating. On the other hand, the ability to encounter other players while exploring the overworld and the addition of activities designed for large groups to tackle together, such as World Bosses, is an exciting development. Although I was unhappy when I lost half an hour of progress due to a server disconnection during a lengthy dungeon run, encountering other players and participating in public events like taking down a crazy zombie dragon World Boss made the game feel much less lonely.
